UPDATE: Kyle Schwarber hyperextended his left elbow here. Rob Thomson said he plans on putting him in the lineup tomorrow, but they will see how Schwarber feels in the afternoon before making a final decision.

Kyle Schwarber started Tuesday’s game against the Rays in classic Kyle Schwarber fashion, hitting an absolute bomb.

His 437-foot, 113.9 mph leadoff homer gave Schwarber the Major League record for most leadoff home runs in a season with 14, beating Alfonso Soriano who hit 13 in 2003.

It went south from there for Schwarber.

He was walked in his second at-bat in the third inning and on a back-pick by Rays catcher Logan Driscoll, Schwarber injured his left elbow sliding back into first.

He exited the ballgame with “left elbow discomfort.” Schwarber will be further evaluated, per the Phillies.

The Phillies are banged up, big time. Alec Bohm (left-hand strain), Austin Hays (kidney infection), and Edmundo Sosa (back spasms) are on the injured list. J.T. Realmuto is out until at least this weekend with a left knee contusion, Carlos Estevez was hit by a line drive Monday night in the same spot of the knee as Realmuto, and Bryce Harper‘s been dealing with elbow and wrist discomfort all summer.

And losing Schwarber would be a big problem. He has hit .452 over his last eight games with three doubles, seven home runs, 13 RBI, and 11 runs scored. He was just named the National League Player of the Week. These are better than June Schwarber stats, and in September.

We will have more information as it comes out in the postgame summary and on X.
