The Birds took down Green Bay in Brazil in a tight 34-29 win, coming down to the final play. At times the game was rocky, with the first 2 drives of the season resulting in Philly turnovers, but at other times everything looked fantastic.
Saquon Barkley‘s first game as an Eagle didn’t disappoint.
The star running back scored 3 touchdowns and notched 134 total yards. He was the first player to get into the endzone for the Eagles this season, rushing and receiving. The former Giant seems like he will be levels ahead of what D’Andre Swift was last season for Philadelphia, despite Swift’s decent season.
Vin Fangio’s defense started out strong to start the game but began to slow down as the game progressed. The Eagles D allowed just 6 points in the 1st quarter but let up 23 throughout the final 3 quarters. Players like Reed Blankenship and Zack Baun dominated and were excellent. Rookie Quinyon Mitchell also played well, notching 5 tackles on the day.
The offense of Kellen Moore was absolutely beautiful in Friday Night’s game.
Including Barkley’s 134 yards, the offense was able to get up to 422 yards in Friday’s game. Philly’s 34 points were the most on opening day for them since 2014. A.J. Brown was excellent, getting 119 yards in just 5 catches, as well as a 67-yard touchdown.
If the Eagles can get over the growing pains, like the 2 early turnovers and the late pick thrown by Jalen Hurts, they’ll be just fine this season. Beating a team like Green Bay early in the season sends a statement to the NFL.
The Birds are coming.
