Some terrible news was broken last night in Atlanta. One of the game’s best superstars, Ronald Acuña Jr., is out for the remainder of the season from a non-contact injury he sustained Sunday against the Pirates.

This will be the second time in the last 4 seasons for Acuña that he will have his year-end early due to injury. With Spencer Strider already out for the season, the Braves will be without 2 of the best pitchers and outfielders in the league respectively. What does this mean for not just the Phillies, but the NL as a whole?

At the beginning of the season, the Phillies were in a weird spot as to what a “successful regular season” would look like. The fact of the matter was that the team could win 100 games and be 2nd in the NL East because there was no reason that the Braves would fall off.

But now here we are just 54 games into the Phillies season and the idea of what a “successful regular season” looks like is almost completely different than it was just 2 months ago.

There is officially no excuse for the Phillies to not win the NL East. The team is off to a historically good start and already holds a 6 game lead over the Braves. Now that Atlanta will be without its reigning MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. and one of the best pitchers in the MLB, Spencer Strider, the Phillies need to capitalize off of this and win the East for the first time since 2011.
