Allen Iverson sculpture unveiled, fans disgusted
Allen Iverson is now forever engraved in Sixers history, as his sculpture, commemorating his iconic crossover, outside their practice facility was unveiled Friday afternoon.
I think it looks pretty cool. Iverson’s crossover over Michael Jordan is what initially started Philadelphia’s love for him. I think the ear pose would have been better, but this is good.
However, yes, it is quite small. It looks like a toy. It kind of looks like my old in-house participation trophies.
The thing is though, this is what all of the statues (sculptures?) look like outside the Sixers’ practice facility at what they call the“Legends Walk” in Camden, New Jersey.
The only thing is, Iverson’s looks so much more petite than all of the others. This thing is smaller than the 6-footer himself.
Is this embarrassing? Kind of. It is more the unveiling part of it that makes me laugh. We are really making such a small statue in New Jersey a huge thing?
Iverson deserves a real statue outside the Wells Fargo Center, but I doubt they will do it right now with their plans of leaving for Center City in 2031. There is still a lot to go down with that. But if they do end up voyaging downtown, the sculptures in Camden should come with it. It would be a nice touch, and real fans would be able to see and appreciate them.
