Spencer Strider to start vs. Phillies on Opening Day
If you were not hyped already for Opening Day, you have no excuse to not be now.
Spencer Strider will be the Opening Day starter for the Atlanta Braves against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on March 28 at 3:05 p.m. ET.
Zack Wheeler gets the start for the Phils. Both Strider and Wheeler will get the ball on Opening Day for the first time in their careers.
Over the last two seasons, Strider has become one of the best-starting pitchers in baseball, going 31-10 with a 3.36 ERA and league-leading 483 strikeouts. He is especially electric against the Phillies in the regular season.
In the postseason, not so much. Strider’s three postseason starts have all come against the Phillies. He has not won any of them. The Braves are 0-3 when Strider has been on the mound in the playoffs the last two years, and he has a 5.40 ERA. Two of those three starts have come at Citizens Bank Park. He has been tormented by fans in both of them, which is well deserved after these comments:
If you are heading down to the ballpark next Thursday, get your vocal cords ready for some “STRIIIIIIDER” chants.
