Flyers stretch their win streak to 4 games

The Philadelphia Flyers (28-19-6) took on the Arizona Coyotes (23-23-4) tonight as they began the push for 4 straight wins. This is the second time the Flyers have faced the Coyotes this season, taking the win in Mullett Arena by 4-1. This matchup is the last time the Flyers will face the Coyotes during the regular season.

The 1st period was a patient watch as defense proved to be the theme of the first 20 minutes of play. Both teams pulled 2 minutes each of penalty infraction minutes during the 1st period. The main action of the period came late as Matt Dumba was fed by Clayton Keller that Matt Dumba was able to rocket past Samuel Ersson to put the Coyotes ahead 3 minutes and 38 seconds before the intermission.

The 2nd period was action-packed and saw a combined 4 goals scored. Travis Sanheim was able to give the Flyers their first goal of the game but after further review of the play, it was ruled that the Flyers were offsides. As the period went on Morgan Frost found a breakaway roughly 4 minutes into the 2nd period where he wasn’t able to finish but was held up by a hooking penalty called on Michael Kesselring. Morgan Frost was awarded a Penalty Shot where he passively crawled to the net and slung a shot that put the game even at 1-1. Arizona responded minutes later continuing to stretch their lead as Matias Maccelli was able to cash in a wrist shot for a goal. Later in the period due to penalties from Jason Zucker and Cam York a 4-on-4 ensued and as The Flyers found themselves in an odd-man rush Scott Laughton was able to send a pass across the ice for a great shot by Travis Konecny that once again made the game even at 2-2. The period came to an end with an Arizona score as Alexander Kerfoot led the pack on a rush into Flyers territory where he was sent a pass by Jason Zucker that Kerfoot was able to put in the back of the net for the lead.

The Flyers had a strong 3rd period where they were able to control the game very well, Jamie Drysdale opened up the period with a wrist shot that deflected off of Matt Dumba which led to the Flyers once again tying up the game. Around ten minutes into the 3rd period Scott Laughton was able to give the Flyers their first lead of the game off of an impressive wraparound goal. The Coyote’s offense kept the Flyers on their toes through the late half of the period and Owen Tippet was able to respond during a Coyotes empty net for a game-sealing goal that put the Flyers up 5-3.

The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Arizona Coyotes 5-3 and continue to cruise with 4 straight wins ever since their return from the All-Star break. The Flyers have been playing some strong hockey and have been showing in the standings as they rest at 3rd in the Metropolitan. The Philadelphia Flyers pack their bags to travel to Canada as they will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7:00 PM on Thursday.
