Eagles bring home D’Andre Swift — trade for Lions starting RB

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports
Howie Roseman has acquired another Georgia Bulldog in the 2023 draft. However, this one is from Philadelphia and the new starting running back of the Eagles.
For the 219th pick in the 2023 draft and a 2025 fourth-rounder, the Eagles have obtained the former starting running back of the Lions, D’Andre Swift, and pick 249 in this year’s draft.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news.
Swift, 24, is from the City of Brotherly Love and graduated from St. Joe’s Prep. He is also now the sixth ex-Georgia Bulldog on the roster. Three of those were drafted this year.
In 39 career games, the Lions’ 2020 second-round pick has recorded 1,680 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was never the true RB1 for the Lions as he shared time with Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson as a rookie and Jamaal Williams the last two seasons. Detroit lost Williams but added David Montgomery and drafted Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round on Thursday, so Swift will now spend the final year of his rookie deal sharing the backfield in his hometown with Boston Scott, Kenneth Gainwell, and recently-signed Rashaad Penny.
For those concerned about trading a 2025 pick for one year of Swift, I hear you. But, if he does end up departing after this season, the Eagles would get a compensatory pick in 2025, meaning they could actually get one year of Swift and move up in the 2025 Draft.
So the Eages’ starting offense is now…
QB: Jalen Hurts
RB: D’Andre Swift
WR1: A.J. Brown
WR2: DeVonta Smith
TE: Dallas Goedert
+ the best offensive line in the NFL
I do not know how, but Roseman has made another incredible trade.
