To absolutely no one’s surprise, the Philadelphia Eagles will release wide receiver Alshon Jeffery in March when the new league year starts.
Yes, I said it was no surprise he’ll be released, but Jeffrey was crazy good in the 2017. He had 57 catches, 789 yards, and nine touchdowns. He added 12 catches for 219 yards and three touchdowns in a very impressive playoffs, and was a significant piece of the offense that season. He’ll always be looked as one of the biggest key for the Super Bowl win, weather you like it or not.
Since that 2017 season, Jeffery hasn’t been able to play 16 games. He started with 13 games in 2018, to 10 games in 2019, to just seven in 2020. Jeffery caught six passes for 115 yards with a touchdown last season. He missed most of the year while recovering from offseason foot surgery. Jeffery in 2018 also had a pass go right threw his hands in the NFC Divisional round to end the season. Ever since them he was never the same.
Jeffery had one season remaining on the four-year $52 million extension he signed with the Eagles in Dec. 2017.
He has 475 career receptions for 6,786 yards with 46 touchdowns between five years with the Chicago Bears and four seasons with the Birds.
It was time for it to happen, but Jeffery is one of the biggest reasons they won the Super Bowl. So for that one season, thank you Alshon!
