The Eagles’ losing streak may never end.

For the second straight week, the Philadelphia Eagles were on primetime television, letting the whole world watch firsthand the embarrassment that is Eagles football. Last week, the offense was alright, but the defense was the issue, as they had no answer for the Cowboys’ offense. This week was essentially the exact opposite.

Heading to Landover for a matchup against the Washington Commanders, another team that has struggled this year, the Eagles essentially needed to find a way to win to keep whatever playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately for them, after the first quarter, the game went downhill quickly as Washington defeated Philadelphia 27-10.

The offense, one week after showing life, was downright terrible, punting five times, turning the ball over twice, and even missing a field goal. Tanner McKee looked scared under center all night; the offensive line had no answer for the Commanders’ blitzing attack, and not one playmaker could make a play.

On the other side of the ball, the defense was just alright. They had no answer for Jayden Daniels as he had all night back in the pocket to make any play he wanted with his feet or his arm. Daniels only had 217 passing yards and one touchdown, but the Eagles’ defense just had the vibe that effort wasn’t on display, and because of that, the Commanders took advantage of it to pick up the victory.

It’s the first six-game losing streak for Philadelphia since 2012, Andy Reid’s final season in Philadelphia, when the Eagles went 4-12 and selected Lane Johnson fourth overall. While it’s still far from knowing the answer, another season like 2012 could be on the horizon, and could spell the end for another Eagles head coach.

After winning the toss and deferring to the second half, the Eagles’ defense got to work against Jayden Daniels and the Commanders’ offense near midfield after a strong kick return. Daniels hit a few small gains, but two false starts pushed Washington back and brought up a 4th-and-11 from the 37 for a field goal.

Drew Stevnes lined up for the 55-yard attempt but pushed it wide right, keeping the game scoreless. Despite having solid field position on their first drive of the night, the Eagles went three-and-out, but the Commanders followed suit on their next drive.

However, Phaidlepha’s next two drives resulted in back-to-back scoring drives to give them a 10-point lead. The first was a field-goal drive, highlighted by a 20-yard catch from Makai Lemon and an 11-yard catch from Darius Cooper, but short runs and an incompletion on third resulted in a 40-yard field goal from Jake Elliott for the first points of the game.

After the field goal, Washington’s next drive ended quickly when Drew Makuba knocked out an 11-yard catch from Chig Okonkwo, and Zack Baun recovered it for the Eagles’ first fumble recovery of the season.

A wheel route catch from Saquon Barkley set the Eagles up in a goal-to-go situation, and two runs later, Barkley found his way into the endzone for six.

Up 10-0, the lead for Philadelphia didn’t last long as Washington got down into field goal range on their next drive, and Stevens didn’t miss his second field goal of the night, drilling a 56-yarder for the first points of the night for the Commanders.

The Eagles’ next drive blew up in their faces quickly as a huge sack from Washington ended the momentum right near midfield, forcing a punt. Despite pinning Washington at the 10-yard line, Daniels got the Commanders right down the field thanks to a 21-yard pass to Treylon Burks, three catches totaling 20 yards from Antonio Williams.

The drive kept rolling after a 14-yard scramble from Daniels and an 18-yard rush from Austin Ekeler set up Washington inside the 10 with a goal-to-go situation. On the next play, Daniels found Stefon Diggs wide open in the corner of the end zone for a game-tying touchdown.

With the game tied, both teams punted on their next drives, but another short drive from Philadelphia gave Washington a chance to take the lead just before the half. A 20-yard catch from Diggs put the Commanders across midfield, and another scramble run from Daniels set up a 39-yard field goal for Stevens, making it 13-10 Washington at the half.

Out of the break, neither team seemed like they could get solid offensive drives going, as both teams punted to open the half. Philadelphia’s second drive of the half had some momentum going until a strip-sack fumble by Dorance Armstrong gave Washington the ball right back.

A huge 53-yard catch from Burks instantly put the Commanders down at the seven, but the Eagles defense managed to hold the line and force another field goal from Stevens, making it 16-10 Washington.

Down six, the Eagles needed to put together a big drive to at least get some type of points on the board, and nearly failed at that right away as a Tanner McKee interception was called back after a roughing the passer call from Washington.

As play shifted from the third to the fourth quarter, McKee got the drive going again, using his legs, finding open receivers for small runs to get the ball inside the red zone for the first time since the first quarter.

The drive eventually stalled out after an incompletion and a zero-yard pass, and while the Eagles were in field goal range, back-to-back five-yard penalties pushed Elliott back to the 31-yard line, and he missed the 41-yard field goal.

Washington, up six with just under nine minutes to play, started burning clock while still driving the ball down the field. Daniels hit Williams with a 30-yard catch, and Diggs grabbed a ball for a 10-yard reception. The drive eventually stalled out, but Washington was still in field goal range for Stevens, and he nailed his fourth field goal of the night from 42 yards out to put the Commanders up two possessions.

With under four minutes left, the Eagles needed points and quickly, and unfortunately for them, they couldn’t even get the ball past the line of scrimmage. A huge third-down sack brought up a 4th-and-25, and the Eagles decided to go for it, and McKee tossed one up that was intercepted, essentially icing the game.

Rachaad White broke a 33-yard run and scored two plays later for another Commanders touchdown to make the game even more out of reach. The final Eagles drive was Washington playing prevent defense as Philadelphia was unable to get down the field, as the Eagles were defeated 27-10 for a sixth straight loss.
