Flyers select another defenseman, goaltender in second round of NHL Draft

The Flyers made two selections in the second round, adding another defenseman and more depth to their goaltending.
They select defenseman Brek Liske 53rd overall. Their first two selections have been defensemen, after trading back in the first round on Friday night. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound 18-year-old Liske played in 52 games for the Everett Silvertips in the WHL, and scored seven times and assisted 17 for 24 points. He played for Everett for two seasons, leading up to the NHL draft.
During the 2026 WHL playoffs, Liske erupted on the scoresheet, recording 17 points on four goals and 13 assists in 18 games while playing on the first defensive pair. The previous year, he only recorded one assist in 13 playoff games.
Liske was the third-most used defenseman on his team behind Landon Dupont and Tarin Smith. He saw more time on the ice on the penalty kill rather than the power play. He displays particularly high efficiency on completed passes (89%). In addition, he averaged 9 takeaways per game against 5.1 giveaways per game. He also blocked an average of 1.6 shots per game this season.
He covers ground very well in defensive territory and is active to gain puck possession. His game is simple, and he shoots on an open lane or makes a smart move to move the puck to an open teammate.
Nine picks later, they selected goaltender Martin Psohlavec. The 18-year-old, standing at 6-foot-5 and 185 pounds, is a left-catch goalkeeper, which adds to the Flyers’ depth behind Daniel Vladar and their newest goaltender, Joseph Woll. It is the first time the Flyers have drafted a goalie since 2023.
Psohlavec can jump into a split with ease. Possessing good form, he stretches his upper body into saves to further improve his range laterally. Playing for head coach Energie Karlovy Vary U20 in the Czech U20 League, he played 42 games and had a 1.92 GAA and a .928 save percentage.
He posted a record-setting 11 shutouts in 50 games between the regular season and the playoffs.
At the U18 Men’s Worlds, he had a 1.68 GAA and a .926 save percentage in four games.
The Flyers are scheduled to select again at pick No. 120.
