The Flyers announced Thursday morning that they have acquired a fifth-round pick in the 2026 Draft, along with a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, in exchange for Garnet Hathaway and a sixth-round pick in the 2026 Draft.

This move still gives the Flyers four picks in the upcoming draft, as they move up one round from the sixth to the fifth. They will now select 136th overall on Saturday afternoon.

In three seasons with the Flyers from 2023-26, Hathaway scored 18 times and assisted 23 for 41 points in 215 games with Philadelphia. He also scored one goal and assisted on one in the playoffs, a short-handed goal against the Penguins in the first round.

In the regular season, he was the Flyers’ nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy and played 66 games, where he led the Flyers with 252 hits, the ninth most among all NHL skaters last season, and produced three points

The 34-year-old from Naples, Florida, will return to his hometown team. The Flyers will retain 50% of his standard player contract, which had a $2.4 million cap hit. The Flyers will pay $1.2 million in the 26-27 season. This move signals that the team will aim to bring back 37-year-old Luke Glendening, who spent time on the fourth line with Hathaway in the regular season and postseason.

This move signals that the Flyers could bring somebody in via a trade, the draft, or free agency. They already have a sizable amount of winger depth, with Nikita Grebenkin and Jett Luchanko looking to be playing consistently in the NHL soon. They also have the likes of Porter Martone, Alex Bump, and Denver Barkey, who are most likely going to be regulars.

The NHL Draft begins Friday night, starting at 7 p.m.
