The Eagles finally have tight ends on their roster, an old friend and a new face.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles have signed tight end Johnny Mundt to a one-year contract and have also re-signed tight end Grant Calcaterra to a one-year deal as well.
The moves come just about an hour after the Eagles made their first free agency signing, agreeing to terms with former Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen.

Philadelphia went into free agency this offseason without a single contract tight end on its active roster, with all three from last season hitting the open market. The tight end market was an active one on the first day of free agency as nine tight ends agreed to terms on contracts with teams. The Eagles now have not one but two tight ends, both with very different skill sets.
Mundy was formerly a Jacksonville Jaguar, playing just one year in Duval after spending the previous three in Minnesota with the Vikings and the previous five with the Rams in Los Angeles. Mundy went undrafted in the 2017 draft after spedning foru year in Eugene with the Oregon Ducks.
While his stats aren’t off the charts good, as in nine seasons he’s recorded only 74 receptions for 658 yards and four receiving touchdowns. However, Mundt has been rated as one of the best blocking tight ends in the entire league throughout his career, and has been a focal point as to why he’s remained in the league.

The Eagles ranked in the bottom five in tight end blocking last season, and it affected them heavily in both the passing and, more specifically, in the run game compared to the season prior. Mundt will heavily help improve that problem while also likely being a driving pusher on the Eagles’ famous tush push.
Calcaterra returns to the Eagles after spending the entirety of his rookie contract with the Birds. Calcaterra was drafted in the sixth round in 2022 out of SMU and mainly backed up Eagles starting tight end Dallas Goedert during his first four seasons.
In four seasons, Calcaterra recorded 42 receptions for 494 yards and snagged two receiving touchdowns. As of now, Calcaterra would be the Eagles’ starting tight end with Goedert still a free agent; however, reports have said that the Eagles are still very much in Goedert, and signing him would likely secure this tight end room for 2026.
