Tyrese Maxey has suffered a sprain of the right fifth finger. He is out on Monday in Cleveland and Tuesday against the Memphis Grizzlies. Maxey will undergo further testing and consultation on the next steps following the back-to-back, the 76ers announced on Sunday.

Maxye suffered the injury with 25 seconds remaining of the Sixers’ 125-116 loss in Atlanta Saturday night. Maxey collided with Adem Bona, hit the deck, and was in major pain while grabbing his right hand. He was removed from the game and did not return. The loss dropped the Sixers to the eighth seed in the East, putting them in a Play-In spot.

Maxey, who was named an All-Star starter for the first time in his career this season, has carried a heavy load for the Sixers this year, averaging 38.3 minutes per game, the most in the NBA. Maxey leads the team and ranks fourth in the NBA with a career-high 29 points per game. He scored 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting in Atlanta for the short-handed Sixers.

The 25-year-old guard’s presence will be sorely missed for the Sixers, as he joins a long list of teammates on the injury report. He has been the most consistent player on this team all season long. Not just scoring, but his leadership on and off the court, missing just two of the Sixers’ 63 games.

For Monday night in Cleveland, Joel Embiid (right oblique strain), Paul George (suspension), Maxey (right finger strain), and Johni Broome (right knee surgery recovery) are all out for the Sixers. Embiid has missed the last four games and will bypass at least the next two. George is not eligible to return until March 23, and Broome is out for the remainder of the season. VJ Edgecombe, who has missed the last two games with a lumbar contusion, is questionable for Monday. He has missed the last two games.

Following their back-to-back against Cleveland and Memphis, the Sixers travel to Detroit to face the Eastern-leading Pistons, and then close out the week on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Brooklyn Nets.
