So much for Aidan Miller playing third base for the Phillies on Opening Day.

The Philadelphia Phillies are just over two weeks into their spring training practices in Clearwater, Florida, and just one week into playing games. Many players have begun to get back into the swing of things with both the MLB and MiLB seasons beginning in less than four weeks.

However, one Phillies player has yet to make his 2026 spring training debut, and odds are it seems like that’s not going to happen. Phillies top prospect, infielder Aidan Miller, has missed all of spring training so far with a lingering back issue, and according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, he may be out for the remainder of the spring and then some.

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski spoke Saturday about how he has suffered setbacks in the rehabbing of the injury, and that they don’t know the extent of the injury.

Miller, just 21 years old, was drafted in the first round, 7th overall, back in 2023 by the Phillies, and it didn’t take long for him to shoot up the Phillies prospects rankings. Last season, Miller was ranked the No.2 prospect in the Phillies’ organization and the No. 23 in baseball.

Now, this back injury isn’t something that just showed up out of nowhere, as last fall, Miller missed the last few games of the Triple-A season and also missed all of the Arizona Fall League. While it hasn’t been labeled as serious, the injury has caused him to not play a single game since last September.

Miller was projected to get serious time at shortstop and third base this spring, with the chance of possibly impressing Phillies brass for a spot on the opening day roster, but that seems like a long shot now. The buzz comes from the possibility that the Phillies could deal starting third baseman Alec Bohm at some point this year, due to his impending free agency and the unlikelihood that he will be re-signed by Philadelphia.
