Who Are The Big New Names For This Year?
Well, there certainly are not big names joining this Phillies team the same way a big name like Bryce Harper joined in 2019 or Kyle Schwarber in 2022, but there are a couple of new Phillies that could be labeled as the ‘Big New Names.’ Those two names are Brad Keller and Adolis Garcia.
Keller is a 30-year old relief pitcher who signed a 2-year, $22 million deal with the Phillies back in December. He is coming off a season with the Chicago Cubs, where he became one of the more renowned high-leverage relievers in the league, pitching to a 2.07 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 68 appearances.
Garcia is an outfielder coming off a far less dominant season. The 32-year-old had a poor campaign with the Texas Rangers and actually got released by the team; however, he is only 2 years removed from being a World Series champion with the Rangers and the best hitter on the team that year. He has the luxury also of going from a Texas Rangers ballpark that is not favorable for hitters to a Citizens Bank Park in South Philly that is one of the most favorable for hitters. Garcia is only on a 1-year deal for $10 million, which he also signed in December.

Who Are The Top Prospects Joining The Team?
A different route we could’ve gone for the last question, but works for this one, is that the Phillies have at least one, more than likely two, highly touted prospects joining the team. The clearer one that will be with the team come Opening Day is outfielder Justin Crawford. Crawford is a contact-hitting, speedy, and defensively sound former 1st-round selection for the Phillies back in 2022 out of high school, and the son of former All-Star and Tampa Bay Rays legend Carl Crawford. He has performed at every Minor League level he has been at, and all signs point to him being the starting centerfielder for the Phillies on Opening Day, and hopefully bringing some youthful energy to a veteran team
The other big-time prospect that more than likely will be on the team come Opening Day is starting pitcher Andrew Painter. Painter was the Phillies 1st-round pick back in 2021. He was 18 years old at the time. He entered Spring Training in 2023 with a very good chance at making the Major League roster, but sustained an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery, forcing him to miss of all of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, He returned in 2025, and while his numbers don’t jump off the page, there were clear signs his recovery was continuing and that he was developing. He now enters this Spring Training another season removed from his injury, and more than likely will get the chance at the Major League level.
What’s Going On With Nick Castellanos?
What is going on with Castellanos is the fact that Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies front office made it clear that they were going to move on from him at the beginning of the off-season. The issue, however, is that Castellanos is not valuable to be traded, and the Phillies are doing whatever they can to do something. What will most likely happen is that Castellanos will be released before the rest of the team gets to Spring Training, and he will hopefully get signed by a team for a super cheap deal.
To put everything in simple terms: Castellanos’ time with the Philadelphia Phillies is done, and the front office did not handle the situation well enough to mend it and just keep him on the roster or trade him to a team that would want him.

What Is The World Baseball Classic?
The World Baseball Classic is an international competition that takes place during spring training and has gained so much popularity that some of the best baseball players in the MLB and in the World join their country’s team for a chance to play for their country.
The event tends to happen every four years, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic got pushed back to 2023, and the wait was only three years this time around. After this year’s tournament, it should return to the four year circut.
Are There Any Phillies Playing In The WBC?
Yes. The Phillies actually have one of the larger groups, out of Major League teams, attending the tournament. The Phillies playing in the WBC are as follows:
USA: Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Brad Keller
Dominican Republic: Cristopher Sanchez, Johan Rojas
Venezuela: Jose Alvarado
Italy: Aaron Nola, Dante Nori (Phillies Outfield Prospect)
Panama: Edmundo Sosa
Mexico: Taijuan Walker, Alan Rangel (Minor Leaguer)
Israel: Garrett Stubbs, Max Lazar (Minor Leaguer)
Netherlands: Jaydenn Estanista (Minor League Pitching Prospect)
Brazil: Gabriel Barbosa (Minor League Pitching Prospect)
Those are the players actively a part of the Phillies organization. A little fun fact, though, former Phillie Vance Worley, who was a top prospect and stellar starting pitcher for the team in 2010 and 2011.
