What We Should Expect From Jalen Hurts in the Playoffs

Coming off a Super Bowl MVP, the expectation for Jalen Hurts 2025 regular season was through the roof. Many believed that he would ride the momentum of his NFC Championship and Super Bowl performances and turn in a MVP like regular season. Unfortunately, that wasn’t exactly the case, yet Hurts has still led the Eagles to their 5th straight playoff appearance.
As we approach the first round of the playoffs, I think it’s fair to set some expectations for the Eagles’ signal caller.
The biggest thing I am looking for out of Hurts this postseason is to increase his rushing attempts. Hurts finished the 2025 regular season with a career low in rushing attempts and yards, with 105 attempts for 421 yards. Hurts also had a career low in rushing touchdowns with 8.

There seemed to be a concerted effort to limit Hurts’ attempts on the ground this season in an attempt to keep him healthy. While he has been healthy all year, his effectiveness as a quarterback has declined due to his unwillingness to run at times. During the season, there were multiple reports that the Eagles’ QB wanted to run less, which is why he was, at the time, on pace for career lows.
Whether or not you believe the reports, the numbers are the numbers, and Hurts must unleash his legs in the postseason. We saw last postseason against the Rams what Hurts can do with his legs, and getting the triple threat behind center can help this team go a long way.
While unlocking Hurts’ legs can be a dynamic factor these playoffs, his arm is going to be what decides these games. Going into these playoffs, the expectation for his arm has to be the level of play from last year’s NFC Championship and Super Bowl.

The reality of Hurts’ career in the postseason is that he has been up and down. Hurts and the Eagles have been knocked out of the playoffs twice in the first round, with Hurts’ play being a big reason why. Even in last year’s playoffs, Hurts struggled in the first two games against Green Bay and Los Angeles.
This year’s team is not as complete as last year’s, and if Hurts has a game where he really struggles, it could mean the end of the season for the Eagles.
The expectation for Hurts this postseason should be that of an elite quarterback, which he has shown he is capable of doing on the biggest stage. When you look back at his two best games of last year’s playoffs, his stats don’t even jump off the page, but everyone watching those games could tell the difference between those performances and what he has been doing in the regular season.
I believe that with the re-addition of his run game, he can turn up his play and put in better performances in the playoffs. We have seen him do it before, so we should believe he can do it again.
The question is, will he do it consistently enough for this team to make another deep run into February?
