The 2025 Philadelphia Eagles are officially in panic mode.

Coming off a Super Bowl win last season, a dominant Super Bowl win at that, the Eagles were dead set on running things back this following season. The blueprint looked perfect. Nearly the entire starting offense was returning, and the defense had a few holes; however, young players and new draft picks filled those gaps.

Everything looked great heading into 2025, but things don’t always go the way you hope they do. With four weeks to go until the postseason, the Eagles find themselves at an astonishing 8-5 record and currently on a three-game losing streak. It’s the first time they’ve lost three games in a row since 2023.

How they got here may not shock some fans, as the entire season, the Eagles have gotten away with wins that many felt they didn’t deserve. All but one of the Eagles’ games this season have been one-score contests — the lone exception being their Week 8 win over the Giants. Week after week throughout the season, the Eagles scraped by with wins on blocked game-winning field goals, a bad pass interference call, and, most recently, a five-turnover game from their Super Bowl MVP-winning quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Five turnovers, a career-high for the sixth-year quarterback. It’s arguably the worst game in Hurts’ career, and it came on the brightest stage the NFL has to offer in the regular season, Monday Night Football. The Eagles were facing a quarterback who had surgery on one of his hands just seven days prior, and somehow, Hurts was the worst quarterback on the field.

Now you can go back and look at every turnover, and yes, some aren’t his fault, and some definitely are. However, at the end of the day, the stat line will show that this game was on Hurts, and he failed to step up to the challenge. Not only did the turnovers kill Hurts, but his inability to finish on every drive during the game. They had multiple chances to cash in on touchdowns throughout the night, and Hurts continued to criticize himself over his poor performance.

“I didn’t play well enough. Too many turnovers,” Hurts said postgame. “Lots of opportunities, especially when we get on the other side of the 50. But I wasn’t able to get us in the box.”

Every time they figured something out on offense, it felt like they just took two steps back. Whether it was a penalty, a bad play, a terrible decision, or a turnover from Hurts, nothing was working on the offensive side of the ball. It’s not even like this is a one-game thing for Hurts; it’s been like this for the past month and a half.

Since the bye week, Hurts has averaged 215.4 passing yards and a 57.5 completion percentage. In those five games, his touchdown-to-interception ratio is 4/5, and he has also lost three fumbles. Before the bye, Hurts had 15 passing touchdowns and just one interception and fumble.

Hurts has been nothing short of a disappointment for the Eagles this season, and his poor play has affected every part of this Eagles team. The offense struggles, and then the playmakers are unhappy. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith have seen a clear drop in numbers, and on top of that, the Eagles’ run game has been pitiful. Obviously, Hurts can’t control the running game, but Saquon Barkley rushed for over 2,000 yards last season, and this year he has only rushed for over 100 yards twice. The whole offense isn’t playing as a cohesive group, and every part of it is affected by it.

Then you move to the other side of the ball. The Eagles’ defense has been the reason the team has had any sort of relevance this season. While they’ve had bad games, the defense has come up with great performances after great performances and has single-handedly won this team multiple games.

But the turnover issue and the inability to string long drives together have caused the defense to spend the majority of games on the field. Also, the lack of points from the offense has forced the defense to bail them out. It’s a terrible mix that will not work if it continues, and will only cause a further divide between this team.

Despite the cause for concern, the team still feels like there’s no time for panic. Barkley, despite the loss and Hurts’ poor performance, still has confidence in Hurts’ play and that the team will get better together amid recent adversity.

“This game doesn’t change anything; it just continues to make us closer,” Barkley said. “We know what the end goal is. We know what we want to accomplish.”

A Super Bowl is the least of the Eagles’ concerns at the moment, as what once was thought to be a guarantee, the Eagles are in danger of not only winning the NFC East, but may not even make the playoffs. Now with two games against the struggling Washington Commanders, the Las Vegas Raiders, who are one of the worst teams in the league, and the Buffalo Bills left, the Eagles have to find wins somewhere with four weeks to go.

All season long, people have feared that this season would be similar to the dreadful 2023 season, and while there’s still time to change that opinion, the Eagles are heading towards a one-way ticket to another disappointing end of the year.
