How Owen Tippett has Changed his Season’s Projection Through the First 6 Games

The Flyers have started their season off on what many would consider to be a positive start, as they are over hockey .500 at 3-2-1 with seven points. One of the reasons the Flyers have gotten off to this hot start is courtesy of forward Owen Tippett, who has gotten off to an unpredictable start after a noteworthy offseason for Tippett.
Through the first six games, Tippett has scored five goals, which ties for seventh in the entire National Hockey League. With his five goals comes a shooting percentage of 26.3%, compared to a usual 10%. Tippett is currently +4 on the year, adding to his early excellence.
The goals Tippett has scored were all important, making his team’s leading stat more impressive to start the year. Tippett’s first goal of the season was a power-play goal to put the Flyers on the board first in Carolina. Another impressive goal from Tippett was a back-door bank shot, which turned out to be the lone regulation goal for the Flyers in their win against the Minnesota Wild.
Tippett continued his excellence in Monday night’s victory over the Seattle Kraken, where he scored his first multi-goal night of the season, with a pair of tallies leading to the 5-2 Flyers win. Tippett not only got the Flyers on the board to tie the game in the first period, but also scored another highlight-reel angle shot, something he hopes to bring back as a regular way to score goals this season.
Goal scoring is not the only way Tippett has brought himself back into the action this season, as physicality has been present up to now. If he can use all of his 210 pounds to his advantage throughout the season, he will continue to create more chances off the rush and on the power play, as his speed lies towards the top in professional hockey.
This surge for Tippett is not only important for himself to get back on track, but also for the Flyers, as teams such as the Buffalo Sabers and Minnesota Wild have drawn interest in breaking the trade freeze with a trade before Thanksgiving regarding Tippett, who is entering his second season of an eighth-year contract extension with the Flyers. These rumors have been around for quite some time now and have even extended into the beginning of the season.
These trade rumors, however, may now be worth little, as Tippett has made a huge connection and impact as of late, and if he continues to, there may be no return valuable enough for Tippett to leave Philadelphia. After a down year, trade rumors and little hope to start the season have completely shifted towards optimism of a franchise star in the making, just in the span of six games.
