Phillies’ NLDS roster revealed with no real surprises

It is game day at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies host the Dodgers for Game 1 at Citizens Bank Park on Monday night, and they have just revealed their 26-man roster, which features no real surprises.
Pitchers (12): Left-handers – Tanner Banks, Jesus Luzardo, Tim Mayza, Cristopher Sanchez, Matt Strahm, and Ranger Suarez. Right-handers – Walker Buehler, Jhoan Duran, Orion Kerkering, Aaron Nola, David Robertson, and Taijuan Walker.
Catchers (2): Rafael Marchan and J.T. Realmuto.
Infielders (6): Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper, Otto Kemp, Edmundo Sosa, Bryson Stott, and Trea Turner.
Outfielders (5): Harrison Bader, Nick Castellanos, Max Kepler, Brandon Marsh, and Weston Wilson.
Designated Hitter (1): Kyle Schwarber.
The only thing you can call a minor stupefaction, and something I did not have on my roster prediction, was Mayza making the roster. However, it makes sense with the small number of left-handers in the Phillies’ bullpen.
The possibility of Mayza making the roster over Lou Trivino became most apparent Wednesday night in their intrasquad game, where Mayza came in the game for the fifth. He struck out Marsh looking, forced Bohm to line out, allowed a pair of singles to Harper and Realmuto, and got Castellanos to ground into a fielder’s choice. Despite the two hits allowed, the appearance helped his case to make the roster, especially with the recent struggles of Trivino.
Everything else, however, status quo.
Sanchez will throw the first pitch Saturday night at 6:38 p.m. ET.
