Flyers trading Ivan Fedotov to Blue Jackets for 2026 sixth-rounder, no salary retention

The Flyers are clearing up their goalie logjam before training camp gets underway.
The team is trading Ivan Fedotov to Columbus for a 2026 sixth-round pick. The move clears $3.275 million off the books for the Flyers, who will receive no salary retention.
Elliotte Friedman reported the news first Sunday morning.
The 6′ 8″, 214 lb, 28-year-old goaltender was taken by the Flyers in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL entry draft with the 188th overall selection. However, he did not join the Flyers until 2024, nine years after he was drafted. This is due in large part to his detention and mandatory military service in Russia in July 2022. After serving his time, he signed with CSKA Moscow of the KHL, but his following attempt to join the Flyers included contract disputes and international ruling appeals.
Once he finally made it over to Philadelphia, the nine years certainly were not worth it. In 29 games in his career, he has a record of 6-14-5 with a 3.29 GAA and a wretched .874 save percentage.
The Flyers had four goaltender prospects: Fedotov, Aleksei Kolosov, Daniel Vladar, and Carson Bjarnason. There would have been a lot going on at the NHL and AHL levels with netminders. Fedotov’s cap hit of $3.275 million is the highest, so it makes sense that the Flyers looked to move him first. He also becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
The assumption is that the Flyers will go with Sam Ersson and Vladar in the NHL, and Kolosov and Bjarnason at Lehigh Valley. Having three goaltenders fight for time in one spot is not a recipe for success.
Trading Fedotov also alludes that the Flyers are confident that Kolosov will return to the organization this season. It was rumored that the 23-year-old Belarusian was going back home after a disappointing rookie season last year.
