With the 2025 MLB All-Star starters being revealed Wednesday, there looks to be great talent on both sides of the league. However, there is not one Philadelphia Phillie starting this year’s MLB All-Star Game as of right now. Though the Phillies don’t have all too many stand-out starters this year, there is one Phillie who was arguably robbed of the All-Star start: shortstop Trea Turner.

Instead of Turner, Francisco Lindor of the Phillies’ rival, the New York Mets, was selected to be the National League starting shortstop. This has caused much controversy for baseball fans, as the statistics say Turner should have punched his ticket to Atlanta, Georgia.

Though Lindor leads Turner in home runs by five and RBIs by four, Turner leads in far more statistics. Turner leads Lindor in hits (leads NL with 104 hits), stolen bases, average by over .040, on base percentage, slugging percentage, and overall WAR. Turner leads not only in more statistics, but he leads Lindor in many more important statistics towards the game of baseball, such as average, hits, stolen bases, and many more.

Many can make the argument that Turner does not field all that well, and while he has struggled many times on the field, Turner is having a better year than prior. He is having such a great season defensively that he is having a better defensive season than none other than the starting shortstop, Lindor. This season, Turner has had a further defensive range than Lindor by 3 ft and has had a stronger arm by 2 mph.

Turner, who finished a series win over the San Diego Padres with four hits, has been contributing towards the first-place Phillies this season, even with the Mets and Lindor in second.

This stance does not at all claim that Lindor is not an elite baseball player with extraordinary talent on the field and at the plate; however, fan voters may want to sit back and rethink their vote for the National League shortstop, as season statistics speak for themselves.
