It was another masterclass on the mound from Cristopher Sanchez, who has been one of MLB’s best pitchers in June this season. In his 4 starts this month, Sanchez has pitched 28.0 innings to the tune of a 1.93 ERA and 23 strikeouts.

Tonight in Miami, he did it again. He threw 8 innings, allowing just 1 run, as the Phillies won their 3rd series in a row over the Marlins, taking game 4 2-1.

Sanchez’s dominance nearly single-handedly won this game for the Phillies as the offense struggled to get anything going for most of the night.

June Schwarber leads the way

Kyle Schwarber‘s towering solo home run in the top of the eighth inning was the difference in the 1 run victory. Schwarber went 1 for 3 on the day, also getting on base with a walk in the 4th inning.

Schwarber has been nothing short of incredible this season, the home run marking his 23rd already. His .372 OBP is the second highest in his career, only being beaten by his .374 OBP in 2021.

Schwarber is giving Father Time a run for his money as he has gotten better and better at getting on base in each of his 4 seasons in Philly at the age of 32. He is an unrestricted free agent after this season, and an extension should be top priority for Dave Dombrowski. He’s one of the best power hitters in baseball, who has helped take this team to another level since he arrived.

Bryson Stott had his second straight 2-hit game, going 2 for 3 with a walk. Stott would break the goose egg on the scoreboard for the Phillies in the 7th inning, hustling for an infield single.

Stott has enjoyed the Miami road trip arguably more than anybody, collecting 5 hits, 4 RBIs, and 2 walks across the 4 games.

Otto Kemp continued his excellence since being called up, going 1 for 3 with a double and a hit by pitch. In the absence of Bryce Harper, Kemp’s production has helped fill the hole in the lineup. With the performance, his batting average is an impressive .282.

Sanchez goes 8 innings

Sanchez was incredible today, willing the Phillies to a win with 8.0 innings of 1-run ball. He lowered his ERA on the season to 2.87 as he continues to assert himself as one of the best pitchers MLB has to offer.

In the past 3 weeks, he’s been nearly perfect. Since June 1st, Sanchez ranks 8th in the NL with a 1.93 ERA among starters with at least 3 starts. He has been a pivotal piece in a rotation that, for the last 2-3 years, has been one of the best in baseball.

The arm depth in the rotation the Phillies have is unmatched. The rotation is so good that Sanchez doesn’t even have the lowest ERA among Phillies starters in June. Ranger Suarez is 3rd in the NL with an ERA of 1.33. This is one of the best rotations in Phillies history, more than capable of winning a World Series.

Orion Kerkering picked up his second career save and second of the 4 game series. Kerkering has been one of the best relievers in MLB in the last month and a half. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last 17 appearances and has an ERA of 0.47 since May 1st. He’s finally found the consistency he’s been looking for ever since he was first brought up to the majors. He’s blossoming into a star relief pitcher, and the Phillies could definitely use just that.
