Philadelphia, meet your newest safety.
With the 64th selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles have selected Andrew Mukuba from the University of Texas. The Eagles stayed put at their second-round spot and selected their second defensive player in a row.
Mukuba, a 5’11 186lb defensive back from Austin, Texas, was one of the top-rated safeties coming into the draft this offseason.
Before his time with the Longhorns, Mukuba spent three seasons at Clemson University, where he was a starter for the majority of his time there. During his freshman season, he appeared in all 13 games, starting 10 of them, and recorded 47 tackles, two TFLs, and seven pass breakups. That helped him earn a Freshman All-American nod, ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Third-team All-ACC.
Mukuba would still appear in 22 more games as a tiger, starting 21 of them, but dealt with an elbow injury that caused him to miss time during his junior season. After this third year, Mukuba entered the transfer portal and went back home to Austin to play for his hometown Longhorns.
In his sole season at Texas, Mukuba was a stud, recording 69 tackles, five interceptions, which was tied for fourth in the nation, four TFLs, seven pass breakups, and one forced fumble. He earned third-team All-SEC and appeared in all 15 of Texas’s games.
Mukuba fills a huge need for the Eagles, who traded former starting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson this past offseason for guard Kenyon Green. While he’ll still have to fight for a starting spot with Sydney Brown, it will 100% be Mukuba’s job to win this training camp.
