Philadelphia dropped one to the Timberwolves by a score of 114-109 in South Philly on Saturday night. Their quest for a draft pick in the 2025 NBA Draft continues on track.
The Sixers have now lost 11 straight games, their longest streak of losses this season. They hold on to the 13 seed in the East with a 23-55 record, which is the 5th worst in the NBA. Minnesota, on the other hand, is now 46-32 and is tied with the Golden State Warriors for the 7 seed in the West. They have won 5 straight games and 6 out of their last 7.
The T-Wolves were led in scoring by Anthony Edwards, who ended up with 37 points in 38 minutes. His ridiculous three-pointer late in the game with the shot clock almost hitting 0 put the Sixers to sleep. However, it was Rudy Gobert who was the man of the hour. Gobert finished with an incredible statline of 23 points, 19 rebounds, shooting an incredibly efficient 91% from the field. His dominance on the boards was enough to push Minnesota past Philadelphia.
Despite Minnesota’s win, Philadelphia still had players who fought hard in this one. Quentin Grimes once again had an impressive night, scoring 28 points and nailing 6 of his 10 three-pointers. He had an impressive 17 points in the 4th quarter alone. He has continued to impress Sixers fans and coaches alike and could possibly make himself too expensive to resign this offseason with his play. His constant fight on the offensive and defensive end has been special to watch.
Along with Grimes, Guerschon Yabusele additionally had a great night despite the loss. Yabusele finished with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, and made 8 of his 15 shots. Jared Butler added 16 points to the effort, as well as 8 assists.
Off the bench, Lonnie Walker IV added 18 points and 5 assists, proving to be a much better player than Reggie Jackson was earlier in the season. The 26-year-old Reading, PA native has taken full advantage of the minutes that he has played this season and did that again on Saturday night.
However, despite the efforts by Yabusele and Butler, Adem Bona is the man who needs more attention. Bona may only have had 4 points on the night, but his 10 rebounds were what was noticeable. He is coming off a career-high 28 points, and snagging double-digit rebounds in the next game continues to prove his readiness for more minutes. Bona could be a crucial part of the hopefully new and improved Sixers team next season.
Philadelphia moves on to play Miami on Monday night in South Florida and will look to improve upon this loss against the Bam Adebayo-led team.
