Joel Embiid to Undergo Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, Expected to be Reevaluated in Six Weeks

Joel Embiid, the 76ers’ cornerstone and former NBA MVP, is set to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on his troublesome left knee next week.
The procedure, aimed at addressing lingering issues from previous injuries that limited him to 19 games this season, will sideline the 7-foot superstar for at least six weeks, with a reevaluation scheduled after. While medical experts anticipate a full recovery, the timeline casts a dark shadow over yet another season.
For 76ers fans, this announcement feels like a recurring nightmare. The familiar sight of Embiid in street clothes during crucial moments during the stretch has become an unwelcome tradition in Philadelphia.
At 23-53 and 13th in the Eastern Conference as of April 2, 2025, the Sixers’ playoff hopes were already all but dead for a while, but this is the final blow to a very frustrating season.
The frustration among the Philadelphia faithful is palpable. Many fans express a sense of déjà vu—another season with championship potential potentially derailed by Embiid’s health issues.
