76ers Fall To Knicks 110-105 Extending Losing Streak To 9 Games

Losers once again were the Philadelphia 76ers, as Nick Nurse’s squad was defeated Wednesday night 110-105 on the road by the New York Knicks. With the loss, the 76ers extended their season-long losing streak to nine games, which makes it the longest losing streak for the team since the 2015-16 season.

It was a three-man effort for the 76ers as Tyrese Maxey, Kelly Oubre Jr, and Paul George all finished with 25 points or more in the loss. Maxey led the way, scoring 30 points and adding on five assists and four rebounds, but he went 0-10 from beyond the arc. George had one of his more impressive games as a 76er, finishing with 25 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals, while Oubre shot fantastically, scoring 27 points.

Jalen Brunson had a great night, finishing with 34 points and seven assists. The former 76ers draftee, Mikal Bridges, got sweet revenge against the team that drafted him. Bridges finished with 28 points and two steals, with 19 of his points coming in the first quarter.

Right off the bat, the Knicks got right out in front. Paul George and Tyrese Maxey drilled back-to-back shots for the 76ers for their first points, but Jalen Brunson answered with a long three-pointer. After a layup by Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges scored 11 straight points for the Knicks.

Kelly Oubre Jr. got going for the 76ers, scoring seven straight points, but after three free throws from Brunson, Bridges continued his hot start to the game. He knocked down a long three-pointer and a 10-foot jumper for his 16th point of the first quarter. Oubre drilled another three-pointer for his 10th point of the quarter, but Bridges continued to dominate the 76ers with another bucket.

With under a minute left in the first quarter, Oubre and Lonnie Walker IV hit mid-range buckets. However, Bridges was fouled just before the end of the quarter, hitting one of two free throws for 19 first-quarter points to make it 33-21 Knicks after 12 minutes.

In the second quarter, Cameron Payne scored the first bucket, but it was quickly answered with a dunk from Andre Drummond. Miles McBride knocked down his first bucket, and the 76ers hit back-to-back shots from Maxey and Oubre. The Knicks continued to knock down shots, scoring nine straight points, and after a 15-footer from Maxey, scored two straight dunks from Precious Achiuwa and Ariel Hukporti.

Adem Bona slammed a dunk of his own, and after Brusnon scored a layup, George and Oubre hit back-to-back threes, and Drummond slammed another shot to cut the 76ers’ deficit to 11. With just under two minutes left until the half, Hukporti knocked down a hook shot, and OG Anunoby scored a dunk of his own.

The final minute of the half saw a free throw contest with George, Brunson, and Oubre all knocking down a pair. Before the final buzzer, Brunson scored another bucket for his 15th point of the game as the Knicks went into the half up 61-45.

At the start of the second half, the 76ers opened it up with a nice run to put themselves back in the game. George drilled the first shot of the half, and Oubre continued scoring with a pair of free throws. Quentin Grimes knocked down a long three-pointer for his first bucket of the game, and after a tip-shot from Hukporti, George drilled another three to make it a 10-point game.

Bridges and George then traded mid-range buckets; However, Brunson knocked down a long three, and Achiuwa found his way through the lane for a layup. Bridges and George once again traded buckets, this time in the form of threes. Maxey then got going for the 76ers, hitting three shots in a row, two being and-ones. However, Brunson and Anunoby kept the Knicks leading, knocking down shots of their own.

As the quarter winded down, Maxey continued to stay hot, scoring another bucket and knocking down a pair of free throws to cut the Knicks’ lead to 83-74 heading into the fourth.

In the final 12 minutes of action, both teams kicked off the quarter with four quick points. The 76ers continued to chip back with Justin Edwards drilling a three to make it a seven-point game, but Bridges continued his impressive night with a layup, forcing the 76ers to call a timeout.

Maxey and Oubre continued the comeback, hitting back-to-back shots, and a long three from Edwards cut it to a six-point game. Drummond slammed an alley-oop but was answered with a layup from Hart. George then continued his impressive night with five consecutive points to make it 96-95 Knicks.

After a timeout from the Knicks, Maxey drove through the lane for a layup that gave the 76ers the lead for the first time since the beginning of the game. Brunson fired back with a pair of free throws, but Oubre drilled a long three to retake the lead, and Maxey hit a floater to extend it.

However, Brunson then put the Knicks on his back, scoring another pair of free throws, a tough mid-range bucket, and a long three to put the Knicks back up three. With just under a minute left to play, the 76ers needed a bucket, but Maxey was unable to get the floater to drop.

Brunson was fouled and hit both free throws, and Maxey sprinted his way to the hole for a layup to make it 107-104. On the Knicks’ inbound, Anunoby got wide-open for a dunk to extend the lead. On the other end, Oubre was fouled but only hit one of two free throws. Brunson was then fouled and also hit only one of two free throws. However, Maxey missed a three at the other end, and the Knicks dribbled out the clock, defeating the 76ers 110-105.
