Pure dominance occurred last night on offense and defense for Philadelphia, as the Eagles breezed past the Rams 37-20. The Eagles continue their win streak to 7 wins and a 9-2 record, gaining an even bigger lead in the NFC East.
The game started slow. Los Angeles started the game with a sold drive that stalled out due to a Kyren Williams fumble forced by Isaiah Rodgers and recovered by Nakobe Dean. The Eagles’ offense responded by gaining 87 yards in the first quarter but had only a 21-yard field goal to show for it. Both defenses were playing well, as the game was 6-7 for most of the first half, the touchdown coming from a 1-yard rush from Williams, which happened due to a Darius Slay pass interference call.
The Eagles responded with a punt and a 51-yard drive that ended in a 31-yard Jake Elliott field goal. Then, quickly, a 3 and out, spearheaded by a Brandon Graham sack occurred. After that was a 10-play drive finishing with an A.J. Brown touchdown that was originally called incomplete due to a pass breakup from Rams leading tackler Quentin Lake, the momentum and lead would shift in the Eagles’ favor and shape the rest of the game.
Entering halftime the Eagles held a 13-7 lead and got the ball to start the second half. The second half can be described by only one player. Saquon Barkley. He finished the first half with 12 rushes for 72 yards and on the first play from scrimmage in the second half he’d score a 70-yard touchdown for a 20-7 lead. This would be followed up with a 70-yard touchdown drive of their own for LA finished off with a 2-yard TD pass to Demarcus Robinson.
The Eagles would then proceed to make the Rams look more like a JV football team from Delco than an actual NFL team. It started with Kenneth Gainwell getting his first touchdown of the season and first touchdown since week 9 of last year. Throughout this whole game, the Eagles threw the ball to 6 players with the leading receiver being Brown with 6 catches 109 yards, and a TD.
The 3rd quarter would end with more woes on the season for Joshua Karty as he missed a 47-yard field goal. This would end up with the nail in the coffin in Barkley rushing for 88 of the 91 yards ending in the second 70+ yard touchdown run of the half. The only player to ever do that in the second half of an NFL game and subsequently break LeSean McCoy’s single-game rushing yard record from the famous Snow Bowl vs Detroit in 2013. He also set a record for the most rushing yards against the Rams ever with 255 yards beating DeMarco Murray who had 253 yards against the Rams in 2011. He would finish the day with 302 yards of total offense and outgained the Rams as a whole who had only 290 net yards.
The Rams would finish the game with a late garbage time touchdown from Cooper Kupp but miss the 2-point conversion. The Eagles would send Kenny Pickett out to put a ceremonious end to what most will consider their best game of the season. The Eagles’ Defense was also on display with 5 sacks and forcing 4 fumbles from 4 different players, Rodgers, C. J. Gardner-Johnson, Milton Williams, and Jalen Carter.
The Eagles ended the game with 481 total yards of offense and pure domination on both sides of the ball.
Next week the Eagles travel to Baltimore to play at 4:25 EST.
They will be missing one of their defensive captains, star defensive end Graham, who had his best game of the season Sunday Night, revealing postgame that he tore his triceps and is missing the rest of the season.
