The Flyers pick up 2 points against the Blues at home on Thursday. They have now won 2 games in a row and that’s their first streak of the season.
First Period
The Flyers will score the first goal of the game. A huge play from Ryan Poehling who went coast to coast and made a huge pass to Garnet Hathaway to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. Seeler also got the assist on that goal.
Besides that Flyers goal, nothing much happened in the first period. Only 13 total shots on goal, and 6 from the Flyers.
Second Period
No goals happened in the second period. The Flyers kept their 1-0 lead. Although, the Flyers had the lead in shots on goal after that period. 17 shots with 10 for the Flyers in that period, and 30 in total with 16 for the Flyers after 40 minutes of play.
With the end of the second period, we can say that the Flyers haven’t allowed a goal in their past 6 periods (third period against Montreal, game against Boston, and two periods against St. Louis).
Samuel Ersson has been playing well, in this game too, but the Flyers’ defense, despite not generating a lot of offense, has played a good defensive game, blocking a lot of shots. 8 block shots for the Flyers in this period.
Third Period
After more than 6 periods, the Flyers will allow a goal. Nathan Walker will score his first goal of the season to tie it for the Flyers, with the assists from Broberg and Bolduc. The goal will be scored with 9:58 left in the third period.
Later, after being benched for 3 games in a row (in a part of the first 10 games for the Flyers), Bobby Brink will give back the lead to the Flyers with 3:01 left in the period. A huge play from Brink to pass it to Farabee, and then went to the net to tip the puck through Binnington. Assists from Joel Farabee and Scott Laughton.
During the third period, there were only 12 shots on goal and 5 for the Flyers. This period is typically what has been happening for the Flyers past games. They don’t generate a lot of offense but play a tight-checking game and find ways to win low-scoring games.
Also, Ersson made a huge save with only 20 seconds left in the period to help the Flyers not to force overtime. Flyers win 2-1.
