Flyers activate defenseman Nick Seeler off injured reserve

The Flyers defense has been subpar through the first few games this season. They receive a major boost on Tuesday night.

The team announced that they have activated defenseman Nick Seeler off of the injured reserve list and he will be making his season debut against the Capitals Tuesday night.

Seeler signed a four-year, $10.8 million contract with the Flyers back in March. The deal began this season, posting an average annual value of $2.7 million.

During the Flyers’ preseason game against the Bruins on October 1, Seeler blocked a pass and it hit just the perfect spot on his foot. He has been out since. He tried to skate for a couple of shifts but sat out the remainder of the game.

The 31-year-old was sporting non-contact jerseys at practice, and participating in his first full practice a couple of days ago. 

Seeler was arguably the best defenseman the team had on the roster last season. In 71 games, he had 205 blocks and stabilized the blue line and the defense of the orange and back, which has been a major issue through the first five games.

Seeler starts his season right back next to Jamie Drysdale.

Here are some lineup changes for the Flyers for Tuesday night’s 7:00 p.m. ET puck drop against Washington:

Seeler, Noah Cates, and Nick Deslauriers all will play.

Jett Luchanko, Tyson Foerster, and Erik Johnson come out of the lineup.
