Do the Eagles have a leadership problem?

The Eagles captains haven’t made great headlines across the past 6 weeks. Nothing uncommon really nobody on this team has. The two main contestants these last couple of weeks have been Nick Sirianni and Darius Slay.

Both of them are staring down possibly not being Eagles by the next season, so let’s dive into it.

Nick Sirianni is a hack and needed to be fired yesterday

Nick Sirianni could be an entire feature all on his own. This man is a shockingly bad Head Coach. I could get into how he’s not letting Kellen Moore run his offense, to scapegoating Brian Johnson, to completely losing the locker room last year, but I’m gonna focus on one thing today. There is no pride in barely beating a 1-4 Browns team. How tone-deaf can one man be by barking at his own fans after one of the worst wins the Eagles have seen since 3 weeks ago? In my opinion though, not even the worst part. Following up to apologize for this with your kid the podium is wrong. Kids aren’t bulletproof shields Nick, address the media, and more importantly the fans, on your own. It’s so spineless. I was one of Nick Sirianni’s biggest defenders last season as well. Not my best take. This man managed to break Jason Kelce last year when he was losing it on him against the Rams. Nick Sirianni has arguably become the team’s biggest liability and needed to be fired yesterday.

Podcast views vs NFL play: The Darius Slay debate

Darius Slay has kinda always made weird tweets but he was at least playing well before, now he’s experiencing his worst season since 3 years ago, his first as an Eagle. It seems like he hardly has the competitive drive needed by literally any athlete. Warning signs were there when he went over to compliment Drake London after getting cooked for a game-winning TD on primetime, and it all came to a head not much longer. To paraphrase:

Yes, I may be horrible this season, but have you considered I have 6 pro bowls?

In the span of 6 weeks, he’s gone from one of the more liked athletes in this city, to someone who hardly looks built for professional sports let alone the city of Philadelphia. Then he decided that this was the best time to go on Micah Parsons‘ podcast? Let’s go on the horrible podcast, hosted by a player of my biggest rival in the Cowboys, and talk trash on your own teammates?! This is our leader of men? Disgraceful.

Dishonorable mentions

C. J. Gardner-Johnson talks like Jalen Ramsey while so far playing like Eli Apple. Granted he’s always done this and every team does need a guy with a lot of unearned confidence but when you go up to cameras before a game saying you’re gonna put “belt to a**” and then getting smoked all game long, you talk too much. And he’s the opposite of built for Philly. He threw a temper tantrum on Twitter when he was signed to the Lions because it turns out he cost himself 20 million dollars by deciding to test his nonexistent market!

We are staring down a reality that in 10 years this Eagles team will be remembered as one that was broken by Super Bowl 57. These things get worse a lot faster than they get better and the time to fix this was last year. Total change is needed. Top to bottom. Even Howie Roseman needs to be called into question because passing up on Kyle Hamilton in exchange for Jordan Davis and Brian Branch for Nolan Smith are proving to be horrible decisions.
