Flyers release opening night roster, Jett Luchanko becomes youngest player in team history

The Flyers’ 2024-25 opening night roster is here, and it features some history.

Most notably, Matvei Michkov officially made the roster and will make his Flyers debut on opening night Friday in Vancouver. But the Flyers’ 13th overall pick, Jett Luchanko, also made the cut.

The 18-year-old was expected to be at least a couple of years away from the NHL when he was drafted, but he surprised everyone, earing a spot on the roster and becoming the youngest player to wear the orange and black ever.

Luchanko only had a couple of assists in the preseason, but his rigorous skating and will to check got the front office’s attention.

Will he be around all season? Probably not. But it will be cool to see what he can do at such a young age in the NHL.

And of course, Michkov, the organization’s top prospect who came over from Russia ahead of schedule, immediately showed tons of promise through camp and the preseason with his skill. He scored multiple goals, including an overtime winner at the Wells Fargo Center.
