The Phillies took another brutal loss to the Mets tonight as they went down 10-6. The loss boiled down to a major problem and that was Taijuan Walker‘s knack for letting up runs. Taijuan only pitched 3.1 innings tonight for the Phillies and ended up letting up 8 earned runs in his start.

The Mets took to scoring quickly in the bottom of the 1st as both Mark Vientos and Pete Alonso hit home runs to put their Mets ahead 2-0 in the 1st.

Trea Turner kept the Phillies in the game though with a 2-run shot to left center field to tie the game at 2-2.

This tie didn’t last for long though as Brandon Nimmo would launch a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the third that put the Mets ahead 4-2.

In the top of the 4th, the Phillies responded with a Brandon Marsh single that would draw in Nick Castellanos for a run closing the gap by one run and making it a 4-3 ballgame.

This tight ballgame would quickly be sent into a frenzy though in the Bottom of the 4th as Francisco Alvarez would launch a towering home run to left field drawing in 3 runs for the Mets and putting the score at 7-3.

Nimmo would follow this with a double to right scoring Iglesias from 1st. Vientos would follow behind Nimmo hitting a single to center that would score Nimmo and continue to increase the lead from 8-3 to 9-3.

To keep themselves in the game during the top of the 7th Schwarber would ground into a fielder’s choice and draw J.T. Realmuto in for a run. Bryce Harper followed that at-bat up with a double to center scoring both Marsh and Kyle Schwarber to make this a 9-6 ballgame.

The final nail in the coffin came from a Luisangel Acuna triple that scored Alvarez and gave us our final score of 10-6.

The Phillies showed glimpses of hope and their ability to stay in the fight but it was to no avail due to the runs they allowed. The Phillies hope to bounce back tomorrow and clinch their spot in the playoffs.
