Phillies activate Edmundo Sosa from IL, Buddy Kennedy optioned
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports
Edmundo Sosa has returned from his brief absence.
Prior to Game 2 of the Phillies’ three-game series in Milwaukee, the team returned Sosa from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list. To make room on the 28-man roster, Buddy Kennedy was optioned to Lehigh Valley following Monday night’s game. Additionally, Aramis Garcia has cleared waivers and outrighted to Lehigh Valley.
Sosa hit the 10-day with back spasms on September 8, and he returned on his first day of eligibility. He played two rehab games this past weekend.
Sosa is slashing .264/.319/.437 with a .756 OPS. He has a career-high-tying 30 RBIs in 83 games this season. Sosa has been the Phillies’ guy off the bench this season, so losing him is a problem. He was named the Phillies’ nominee for the MLB Players Alumni Association Heart and Hustle Award this season.
Meanwhile, Kennedy heads back down to the minors, but in his short stay in the majors, he made a pretty solid impression. The 25-year-old from Millville, New Jersey drove in two runs and walked twice in seven games. He had a few big hits late in games for some insurance.
Kennedy will go down as a true Phillies legend.
