After a phenomenal tournament, Joel Embiid and Team USA defeated France in the race for Gold in the 2024 Olympic Games. He found a way to bounce back from an untimely exit in the NBA Playoffs in the highest fashion possible.

8 other players with ties to the 76ers organization have won a Gold Medal with Team USA, but none of them were with Philly at the time. In fact, current Sixer Kyle Lowry won Gold in the Rio Games in 2016.

Striking Gold in Paris meant more to Joel Embiid. He had been facing scrutiny from fans across the world for playing with the United States instead of his home country of Cameroon. The French were the most displeased with Embiid after all signs led to the former NBA MVP playing with France due to him receiving citizenship in 2022. France felt betrayed, despite already having 2 established big men in Victor Wembanyama and NBA-vet and 4x Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert.

Embiid adds to his Hall-of-Fame caliber legacy, which includes an MVP, 7 All-Star Games, 5 All-NBA appearances, 3 All-Defensive appearances, and now hardware. All that’s left for Joel is to write the final chapter and bring Philadelphia a championship.
