Eagles dodge tampering penalty after NFL’s investigation of Saquon Barkley’s signing

The Eagles got themselves some good news Thursday morning.

They will not face any punishments for alleged tampering with Saquon Barkley‘s three-year, $37.75 million contract signed in March, the NFL officially announced.

“After a thorough review of the Philadelphia Eagles signing of Saquon Barkley, the NFL today informed the club that the investigation did not discover sufficient evidence to support a finding that the Anti-Tampering Policy was violated,” the league office said in a statement.

“In coming to this conclusion, the league reviewed phone logs, text messages and other documents related to Philadelphia’s free agency strategy and decision to sign Barkley. The NFL also interviewed several members of the organization, including Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni, as well as Barkley and Penn State head coach James Franklin. As with every review, should new evidence be uncovered, the league may reopen the investigation.”

There was some speculated worry that the Eagles might get a draft pick taken away after Franklin revealed that Roseman talked to Barkley during the NFL’s negotiating window, which is illegal. But Franklin, just like he does every year to Michigan and Ohio State, loses.

The Falcons, however, ran into some trouble with their investigation.

They were docked a fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft and fined $250,000 for violating the NFL’s anti-tampering policy with Kirk Cousins, who signed for four years worth up to $180 million on the first official day of free agency.
