Philadelphia Flyers (36-32-11) took on the New York Rangers (53-22-4) tonight in Manhattan in their fight to make the playoffs.
The Flyers showed up tonight as they performed better than we had seen in the past few weeks pulling away with a 4-1 victory tonight against the number 1 team in the metro, the New York Rangers.
The Flyers led the night off scoring as 4 minutes and 21 seconds into the 1st period Cameron York was able to light the lamp off of the assist from Travis Konecny.
The Flyers stayed strong through the period as with the early goal the Flyers were able to control the momentum for the large majority of the period. In the late stages of the 1st the Rangers made things even via the stick of offensive threat, Artemi Panarin as he was able to dish his 47th goal of the season past Samuel Ersson to tie things 1-1 before heading into the 2nd Period.
The 2nd period was dominated by the Flyers as they played like a team that doesn’t lose 7 straight games.
Bobby Brink and Ryan Poehling led off the 2nd period with a goal as a shot from Ryan Poehling was deflected by Bobby Brink for the Flyers lead putting the game at 2-1.
The Flyers continued to play lockdown defense during the second period as they were able to hold off the Rangers throughout the entire period. With only 37 seconds left to go in the 3rd period, Konecny was able to give the Flyers a cushioned lead before the end of the period via a snapshot to extend their lead to 3-1
With only 5 minutes and 56 seconds into the 3rd period, the same theme persisted into the 3rd period as the Flyers once again scored via a goal courtesy of Noah Cates to make the score 4-1.
The Flyers’ defense continued to dominate the ice through the late stages of the periods as they were able to hold the number 1 team in the Metropolitan Division to 1 goal as time ran out in Madison Square Garden.
After watching a game like that it can give you hope in the Flyers but there are many dead ends in the path to a Flyers playoff berth currently. That’s not to say it is impossible but it’s going to rely on the records of the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Detroit Red Wings.
