After leaks, rumors, and speculation, the Phillies’ city connects are here, and after negative initial thoughts, they are not bad.

“Our City Connect uniform captures the spirit of the past, present and future of Philly,” the Phillies said on their website. “A gritty, tough-minded city, that like its people and its team, will fight all odds to make more history. This is what it means to be Philly.”

Here are some details from phillies.com:

The yellow and blue colors tie into the colors of the Philadelphia flag, and the font is supposed to be a nod to the lettering on the founding documents, which I just do not see at all.

It is ok, I will get to my full review in a second. One early thing I am picking at is the seven on the back of Trea Turner‘s jersey.

That looks like a question mark, or even Benjamin Franklin’s key he used with his kite.

The Phillies are going to wear these uniforms 12 times this year on Friday night home games. Here are the games:

April 12 vs. Pirates
April 19 vs. White Sox
May 3 vs. Giants
May 17 vs. Nationals
May 31 vs. Cardinals
June 21 vs. Diamondbacks
June 28 vs. Marlins
July 12 vs. Marlins
July 26 vs. Guardians
August 16 vs. Nationals
August 30 vs. Braves
September 13 vs. Mets

So the leaks ended up being true. However, they look a heck of a lot better on the players than it did in the leaks.

They are decent. The more I look at them, the more I like them. But they are still just alright. After seeing the initial leak, I thought they would be terrible, but the hat and matte batting helmet assist them.

I really dislike the font. I know they are supposed to be different, but the font and “PHILLY” is just kind of un-Phillies. They have always had the cursive font and either have a “P” or “Phillies” across the chest. Never, ever, “Philly.” I also will never like a gradient on a jersey. They only look good on power points.

Overall they are safe jerseys that do not take too many crazy chances with outlandish colors or designs, and there are subtle nods to the city’s heritage without going over the top.

I will just never get over the question mark on Turner’s jersey.
