Flyers hold back Leafs comeback for 4-3 victory

The Philadelphia Flyers (34-26-8) took back to the Wells Fargo Center tonight to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs (38-19-9). This was the third and final matchup of these two teams this season with both teams in their final footrace to playoffs.
The Flyers were able to just pull away in time with a 4-3 victory, and we’re gonna recap how we got there.
The Flyers led the period off with a bang as only 19 seconds into the period, Owen Tippet was able to secure the Flyers’ first goal of the night with a wrist shot.
The Flyers were a machine during the first period playing solid and uninterrupted offense. The Maple Leafs stood with an aggressive defense contesting a lot of the Flyers’ treks into Maple Leafs territory.
The Maple Leafs couldn’t find a way into the score column during the first period thus taking us into the second period 1-0.
The Flyers found a theme and stuck to it as once again with less than a minute gone away in the second period, Travis Sanheim was able to strike early and extend the Flyer’s lead to 2-0.
The Flyers continued to take control of the game during the second period playing a very strong and well-organized offense against the Leafs.
They once again bested the Leafs’ defense as Morgan Frost was able to put away a wrist shot that sent us into the 3rd period with a dominating Flyers lead of 3-0.
The Leafs found their groove this third period as they took a page out of the Flyer’s book and William Nylander was able to wrist shot the first goal of the night for the Leafs a minute into the third period.
10 minutes and 16 seconds into the period the Leafs started filling panic in the Wells Fargo Center as Tyler Bertuzzi laid a wrist shot to decrease the Flyers lead by one making it a 3-2 game.
After 2 unanswered, Scott Laughton led the Flyers back to a better position on the scoreboard he would put up his eleventh goal of the season to extend the Flyer’s lead to 4-2.
In the fading minutes of the 3rd period, the Maple Leafs attempted to pull off their comeback but ended up a goal short as the final goal of the night would come from John Tavares of the Maple Leafs. The Flyers defense closed out the Maple Leafs for the final few minutes of the game and the Flyers were able to finalize their 35th win of the season.
The Flyers now prepare to head to Raleigh to take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. This matchup will prove important as the Flyers continue to seek a window into the playoffs.
