The Sixers fell 110-96 at Home on Thursday Night to New York in a tough loss that could have been a win had Philadelphia fought harder. The Knicks led by just 8 points with 7 minutes remaining, but Philly never pounced on the opportunity to take the lead and seemed to play more of a defensive-minded game for the final few minutes.

The Sixers are now 32-23 and seem to be in a freefall in the standings.

Kyle Lowry‘s Philadelphia debut was nothing short of eventful. In the 2nd quarter, Lowry was elbowed in the face by Jericho Sims and went to the locker room to receive stitches. He continued to play the rest of the game and put up a serviceable 11 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds off the bench. He shot an efficient 5 for 7 from the field and 1 for 2 from downtown.

The Knicks currently have a 1.5-game lead over Philadelphia for the 4 seed. Still, the Sixers have to deal with multiple difficult opponents in the upcoming weeks including the Cavs, Bucks, and Celtics. Yes, Embiid isn’t playing, but this isn’t an excuse to lose games by this magnitude to teams who are on the same level as the Sixers. It is necessary to make at least these games close and Philadelphia couldn’t even do that.

This team is going to need a lot of fixing and much work is needed to stay considered contenders. Someone needs to step up while Embiid is out, and until then, Philly is really going to struggle.
