Sixers Defeat Wembanyama and Spurs, Embiid Scores Most Points in a Game in Sixers History

The 76ers took down Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs 133-123 at Home. Joel Embiid set a new record for most points in a game in Sixers history, scoring an astounding 70 points. He passed Wilt Chamberlain, who put up 68 points way back in 1967. Embiid is the first player in the 2023-2024 season with at least 60 points and he was able to put up 10 more.
Joel Embiid’s 70-point game wasn’t a game where he just was selfish and kept the ball away from his teammates. Embiid snatched 18 rebounds, an impressive feat in itself, and 5 assists in 37 minutes of play against San Antonio. He hit his previous game-high of 59 points in the 3rd quarter and sat out for the first half of the 4th. When the Spurs started to narrow their deficit, Nick Nurse put the 7-footer back in the game and scored an extra 11. Embiid’s 70 points are the 12th most points in a single NBA game.
Aside from Embiid’s 70-point game, this wasn’t quite as clean of a game as Nick Nurse may have wanted. The Spurs were only down by 4 points going into the 2nd half and kept it close for most of the 3rd. However, Philadelphia was able to pull away and go into the 4th with a 15-point lead. Victor Wembanyama was tough for Philly to handle, as the French phenom scored 33 points. An 8-win team like the Spurs should be destroyed, but Philadelphia wasn’t able to do that.
The Sixers have played their final game at Home in the first month of 2024 and will take a 5-game road trip. They will come back home on the 3rd of February. Philadelphia takes on the Pacers on Thursday Night in Indiana.
