The Sixers took down the Thunder in Oklahoma City on Saturday Night in a tight 127-123 victory despite the late-game heroics by Chet Holmgren and his counterparts. Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were unstoppable, scoring almost half of the 76ers’ points alone with 63. Chet Holmgren was a tough opponent for the Philadelphia defense to handle, but they prevailed. Philly now owns the 4 seed in the East with an 11-5 record and is only 1 game back from the 1-seeded Milwaukee Bucks.
Joel Embiid’s 35 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists, and 4 blocks were enough to propel Philadelphia to victory. He has been an absolute superstar once again and was greatly missed for the last game against Minnesota. He drilled 6 free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the win, thanks to multiple fouls against the Thunder. He also made a season-high 18 free throws in 18 attempts. Embiid wouldn’t have had his success on Saturday without help from Tyrese Maxey. Maxey added 28 points along with 8 rebounds and was crucial to the Sixers’ victory.
Chet Holmgren fought hard but came up just short. A 33-point, 6 rebound, and 3-block stat sheet would usually be enough to become victorious, but the stars didn’t line up Saturday Night for the Thunder. Oklahoma City was expecting more out of Jaylin Williams, who in 26 minutes put up a lackluster 8 points shooting 33% from the field. OKC is a promising squad that could be a team that teams will fear in the playoffs in the West.
The 76ers take on the Lakers at Home on Monday Night. This could be one of the final games LeBron James plays in Philadelphia, as the 38-year-old legend continues to loom retirement.
