With Avonte Maddox suffering a pec injury, the Eagles will get crafty at the nickel cornerback position.

James Bradberry will start in the slot against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night in Week 3, according to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

This news is not a shock. Bradberry has been imagined as an option to substitute Maddox. The corner was seen working with nickels coach Ronell Williams in practice leading up to this week’s game. He also worked in the slot a bit during training camp.

Bradberry’s experience in the slot is minimal. According to Pro Football Focus snap count data, he has lined up as a nickel corner for only 3.35% of his career defensive snaps (239/7,129).

Bradberry will still line up at his normal boundary cornerback position when the Eagles are not using nickel packages. When the Eagles move Bradberry inside, Josh Jobe will come in to play on the outside.
