Eagles grant Derek Barnett permission to seek trade partner

The Eagles have constructed one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. With that, you get rotational players. For some of the older guys, getting fewer snaps has been a good thing, but apparently, Derek Barnett is not a fan.

Barnett is gauging the market for the potential to play more elsewhere, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

The Eagles are planning to have Barnett on their roster in 2023, but Eagles general manager Howie Roseman loves making trades, so there is a chance Barnett could be out of here. Last season the Birds traded away Jalen Reagor, another first-down letdown, around this time.

Barnett, 27, missed all of last season with an ACL injury and took a pay cut on his contract with the Eagles recently.

Barnett is a six-year veteran and has been a starter for most of his career. During his time in Philadelphia, he has recorded 147 total tackles, including 76 QB hits, 36 TFLs, and 21.5 sacks. Barnett’s skill usually made up for the countless number of avoidable personal foul flags that were tossed because of him.

A problem with trading Barnett is he is one of just three traditional 4-3 defensive ends projected to make the roster. His leaving would leave the team with just Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham.

What can the Eagles get for Barnett? Nothing of outstanding value, but he is a veteran edge rusher on a fairly inexpensive deal.
