The Eagles announced today that they have resigned RB Boston Scott to a 1 year, $2 million deal.

Scott is the 2nd running back signed by the Birds today, as it was announced earlier that they signed former Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny to a 1-year deal.

Scott will be entering his 6th NFL season, all as a member of the Eagles. Over his career, he has been a solid backup. In total, he has 282 carries for 1,209 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. Last season, he was a solid contributor to the Birds’ Super Bowl run, finishing the season with 54 carries, 217 rushing yards, and 3 rushing touchdowns.

The Eagles now have 3 solid options at running back in Penny, Scott, and Kenny Gainwell, who many believe could be the number 1 back for the Birds this season after he played very well down the stretch and in the playoffs last year. The Eagles will also have 2 other options at running back who spent last season on the practice squad, in Trey Sermon and Kennedy Brooks.

Most likely, this is an indicator that the Eagles will not be looking for a running back in the draft next month. It was rumored that they were interested in a handful of college RBs, including Texas’ Bijan Robinson and Alabama’s Jahmyr Gibbs, both of whom could go in the 1st round.
This signing also all but closes the door on a potential Miles Sanders resignation. Miles took to Twitter to thank the city of Philadelphia today, tweeting “To the city of Philadelphia Thank You from the bottom of my heart.”

With the Birds now having addressed one of their holes on offense, it will be expected that Howie Roseman will focus his attention on filling the abundance of holes this team has on defense. The Eagles have already lost 4 starters from last year’s defense, which was one of the best in the NFL, and was a big factor in the team’s run to the Super Bowl.
