Good news happened today for the Philadelphia Flyers!
The Flyers signed forward Zack MacEwen to a one-year contract with an AAV of $925k to avoid arbitration. That’s a good deal for the Flyers because of how cheap the contract is. We all know the problem the Flyers have with cap space and that’s one of the reason the return of MacEwen was uncertain.
MacEwen was able to pick up three goals with a total of nine points in 75 games last season but his presence on the ice was incredible. His physicality and the intensity he brings on the ice on every shift was something that I found impressive because of the low expectation I had from him when he got signed in the summer before last season.
The presence of him on the fourth line next season could only be positive for the Flyers specially if he is playing with Nicolas Deslauriers, another forward that the Flyers signed during the offseason. Will he bring as much intensity and physicality as MacEwen do? We will have to find out next season.
The “poor” retool the Flyers had during the summer is a disappointment for a lot of fans. Could we see a surprise? That’s what I hope, and I think the native of Charlottetown could be a part of it.
