Following last night’s game, outfielder Mickey Moniak was optioned to Lehigh Valley AAA. Today, the Phillies selected the contract of infielder Yairo Munoz from Lehigh Valley and transferred infielder Jean Segura from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL. Segura is in recovery after having surgery on a fractured index finger.
Moniak had a great spring training with the Phillies, but he has been going downhill in the big leagues since his return. He suffered a finger injury towards the end of Spring Training, putting him on the IL, even after making the Opening Day roster.
Munoz has been doing a terrific job offensively in Triple-A Lehigh Valley, as he had a slash line of .319/.345/.454 in 172 plate appearances. He hit five home runs and had five stolen bases with the Ironpigs.
Coming off a stellar start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, it’ll be interesting to see how much of his success will translate into the major leagues. He has a career average of .274 in four big-league seasons, but he had just one hit in 11 at-bats in 2021. Even though he is starting in game two of the Marlins series, he is not expecting to see a lot of playing time with the emergence of Bryson Stott.
