Bryson Stott began his major league career slowly, but the Phillies are giving him another chance to prove that he is ready. Didi Gregorius got placed on the injured list before the Phillies’ announced their lineup for Saturday’s game.

Stott has hit very well since he was optioned to Lehigh Valley on April 25th. His dominant Spring Training gave him a roster spot to open 2022, but he hit just .133 in 30 at-bats. He was losing playing time at the big-league level, so the Phillies sent him down to triple-A to give him more playing time to help his development.

In his brief time with Lehigh Valley, he was 12-36 (.333) with two home runs and seven RBIs. He struggled to drive the ball in the big-club, but he had two home runs in his stint in Lehigh Valley, and he sported a .986 OPS.

Didi Gregorius has a sprain in his left knee. Gregorius’ injury is not expected to keep him out of service for very long, so may only see Stott for the ten days that Gregorius is required to be on the IL. Gregorius will likely get his starting role back when he returns, as he had a .288 average prior to his injury.

Stott was penciled into the lineup for Saturday’s matinee, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather. The Phillies will play a doubleheader on Sunday, so I’d expect to see Stott start in one, if not both, of those games.
