Less than a week after his original reinstatement, Rhys Hoskins is heading back to the injured list. The entire Phillies fan base was disappointed by this news as Rhys was expected to be a part of the Phillies playoff push. It appears as if the Phils will be without their star first baseman for the remainder of the season.

Over the past month, Rhys has been dealing with some groin issues. He took a few games off during the New York Mets series in early August, but his injury did not heal. He was put on the injured list and returned in the third and final game in the San Diego Padres series. In that game, he had two home runs and reached base three times. He also blasted a home run in his second game back against Tampa Bay.

In an interview today, Hoskins revealed that he will be getting a season-ending surgery on his abdomen next week. This will be the second season in a row where Hoskins has had a season ending injury.

β€œIt stinks,” Rhys commented on having to get surgery.

This said, he fully expects to be ready for 2022 spring training.

You should expect to see Brad Miller get most of the time at first base for the remainder of the 2021 season.
