The Phillies will return home as they welcome the Miami Marlins (ugh) Tuesday night.

These two squads’ history lead more towards the fish the last few seasons. The Phils are 6-10 against the Marlins since the start of last season.

The Phillies visited Miami in late May and split a four-game series. The series featured an eighth-inning blown save, which has become a normal occurrence these days.

The Marlins have struggled to a 9-15 record in June. That recent stretch of poor play probably won’t matter in this series, because that’s how things go when these teams face off.

On Tuesday, the Phillies made some roster moves as well. They activated second baseman Jean Segura from the injured list and sent pitcher Spencer Howard to Triple A.

Segura was in the Phillies’ lineup Tuesday night, batting second, against Miami. He had been out since June 16 with a groin injury.

He will give the Phillies’ offense a boost. He’s hitting .332 with an .845 OPS, 12 doubles, three homers and 20 RBIs.

Howard goes back to Triple A one day after pitching 2⅓ innings in a start at Cincinnati.

Howard has been used as a starter and a reliever this season in the majors. He has pitched to a 5.82 ERA in 21⅔ innings. As a starter, the right-hander has been effective one time through a lineup. His performance has fallen off after that.

Howard will be used as a starter at Lehigh Valley and work his way up to 100 pitches per outing.

In other news, Odubel Herrera is out of the starting lineup one day after making a baserunning mistake in Cincinnati. Luke Williams is in the leadoff hole, playing center field in place of Herrera.

Vince Velasquez (2-2, 4.74 ERA) gets the start for the Phils Tuesday. In his last 5 starts he only made it out of the 4th inning once, and in that start he only went 5 innings. So this should be fun.

Here’s the starting lineups for Tuesday night’s game.
