Philadelphia Flyers embarrass themselves in a loss to the New York Rangers.
Recap:
Period 1
Scott Laughton won the opening faceoff to start the contest.
Kevin Hayes was called for hooking Brett Howden. It wouldn’t take very long for Artemi Panarin to shoot a pass to Chris Kreider in front of the net, who slam dunked a goal, for this game to be 1-0 Rangers.
45 seconds later, Jakub Voracek stole the puck from a Ranger and pass it to Oskar Lindblom in front of the net. Lindblom then shot the puck behind him and into the net to tie this game up.
1:09 later, Pavel Buchnevich was left all alone on the side of the net. He moved in and shot the puck in the top-left corner and beat Alex Lyon to regain the lead.
Ivan Provorov headed to the box for delay of game. Flyers killed as the period winded down.
Period stats
Flyers: 7 shots on goal, 7 hits, 12 faceoffs won, 4 penalty minutes.
Rangers: 6 shots on goal, 8 hits, 12 faceoffs won, 0 penalty minutes.
After a period, the Flyers were down 2-1. The Flyers weren’t horrendous in the period, but they certainly weren’t good.
Period 2
Claude Giroux won the opening draw to start the second period.
Scott Laughton and Kevin Rooney droped the gloves in a very boring period. Lineman broke it up.
Rangers got caught for having too many men on the Ice. It was served by Filip Chytil. Then K’Andre Miller tripped Voracek. 5-on-3 for the Flyers for 1:22. The Rangers killed all of the penalties. Sahyne Gostisbehere broke his stick, then fumbled a pass with the new stick. Mika Zibanejad sprung Chytil on a shorthanded breakaway as the five-on-three ended, Lyon made the save.
Period stats
Flyers: 9 shots on goal, 9 hits, 8 faceoffs won, 5 penalty minutes.
Rangers: 10 shots on goal, 7 hits, 3 faceoffs won, 9 penalty minutes.
After two periods, the Flyers were down 2-1. That’s a period I would like to forget.
Period 3
Zibanejad won the opening faceoff to start the final period.
Pavel Buchnevich passed the puck to Alexis Lafrenière in front of the net, who sneaked the puck past Lyon into the net. It’s honestly just embarrassing at this point.
Chytil was skating around on the right side of the net and shot a shot and scored from the tough angle. He looked like Patrick Kane in the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals against the Flyers to win the Cup in overtime. 4-1 Rangers.
Game stats
Flyers: 27 shots on goal, 19 hits, 31 faceoffs won, 9 penalty minutes.
Rangers: 24 shots on goal, 26 hits, 21 faceoffs won, 9 penalty minutes.
